Deborah Murphy and Her Vintage and Victorian Traveling Bags - An Interview
We met Deborah Murphy through another Deborah, Ms. Brooks Langford.
Deborah Murphy wanted to contact us and warn us about some hackers. All was fine until we checked her work. I want you readers to know that I don't know nothing about embroideries and Paris Style designs. And if you ask me where is Nove Scotia. I will have to check the map and find Terra Nova and other cities above the Niagara Falls. I bet lots of Canadian fellow writers will come and check Deborah Murphy and her simple life. Let's start by breaking down the ice watching a hockey Game...
A poem By Deborah Brooks
Pioneer Woman
She is a simple woman
beautiful, strong and true
works from day and to midnight
with hardly any sleep......
She has a heart of gold
and carries a big load
can chop wood like the man
can sing a simple melody...
She knows whats important
she can hold your hand when you cry
makes beautiful vintage for sale
that everyone breaks their neck to buy....
Her beauty shines through
her friendship extends no bounds
of loyalty to such massive sounds
makes everything anew....
I sing this woman's friendship
I laugh her into the day
I write her words of love
I say, Deborah Murphy you are the best....
The Interview
I come with the questions and I don't even know what to ask Deborah... but let's see what we come up with...
Thanks so much for accepting our one-on-one interview, Deborah!
My pleasure Joseph. Your introduction made me smile!
Well humor makes life bearable Tell us about your bags... how did you get started? Did you get hit by a thunder and got inspired?
Ha! So to speak, I did get hit by thunder.. This small town put me through so much by stealing everything I ever worked for.
The story goes like this: I met a wonderful woman that moved to that town.. and she started telling me her stories of what all was done to her once moving. So, this one woman ended up in the mental institution.
This is so wrong!
Absolutely! I helped her a lot and she met someone.. I told her I would design a bag for her... and I did .. using a vintage curtain...
I've got to remember that term, vintage curtain..!
So I took the bag to her house to give it to her and she looked at me and said, "you know, Chris and I will always be friends.. because she has money." I turned and walked out her door .... and the next day I took out my very first overdraft from the bank... and bought a piece of fabric for $9 and made a bag that turned it into $150.00 the next day. I do still have that vintage curtain bag!

So you were born in Canada I believe. We want to hear some good childhood stories besides that pigeon's incident? Well, you can say it in your own words...
Say I was. For the most part my child was happy (sigh)
(smiles) Joseph, that's right. A dove dropped its load on me, when I was a little girl!!
I did cry when the other kids laughed
I'm laughing now about that school field trip. Yes, I had a wonderful childhood... memories with my mother... all things simple are great memories. Like sitting on the front porch eating cucumber sandwiches and drinking a hot cup of tea with my mother, always talking mother to daughter stuff. Gee! It was quality time for me .. family picnics and Sunday drives!
Where did you get that artistic vein? I was wondering...
Well, I do believe I always had that in me... I was never in a lot of school plays.. they discovered I was better at making costumes and doing make up... but as a young child I was always drawing gorgeous Victorian gowns.
Reminds me of the Titanic era...
Some of my art work was on display at the big library in downtown Halifax, Canada. That was a big deal for me living outside of the city limits. Everything I do just comes natural.
I always got straight A's -- back then it was 100's in home economics
My mother was a good teacher and a big influence in my life!! Good questions so far, Joseph!
Would you consider buying one of her designs?
So good to read the human side of any artist! Besides bags and designs what other abilities do you have, posses or own for the sake of creativity?
I do paint and I love photography. Love setting up Vintage Vignettes to photograph!
How close are you to Deborah Brooks?
Deborah Brooks means the world to me... When I met Debbie.. I think she may have seen one of my Shabby Paris Styles Lace Hip Bags flowing around the net. She sent me a friend request and it's like we've known each other all our lives... She is very near and dear to my heart as she is to so many people. She purchased several of my bags now.. plus I designed a few other things for her.
I remember your Vintage FB page. Can you give us that link? 2100 likes, wow!
That's so kind of you Joseph! Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/VintageLace/248639585246816?ref=hl
The cliché question, do you believe in miracles?
Yes, I do believe in miracles, you are a miracle.
Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?
I see myself owning a big company, designing, creating.. and giving back. Under privileged children and abused animals need so much from this human race.
I want to thank you so much Deborah Murphy for being so honest and true to yourself.
(off the record: Debbie got hurt today and I want to apologize for making her write so much. Yikes!!)
Thanks to you Joseph. You can only imagine what this means to me!
Now I know why you are a such a great friend. It's fine Joseph ... I've have frozen bags of veggies wrapped around my wrist trying to get the swelling down!
