MY SON, A SENIOR AIRMAN
58Dedicated to my Son in the Airforce... Happy holidays!

LIFE IS HARD AT TIMES
BUT HERE WE ARE
MET YOUR MOM WHEN YOU WERE SIX
FIRST GRADER, TOMBOYISH..SO TO SPEAK
WAS HARD TO ACCEPT ME IN YOUR LIFE
MOMMY WAS THE BEST THING FROM THE SKY
FROM 25 TOYS ON CHRISTMAS EVE
TO JUST THREE, SINCE WE WERE ALSO IN NEED
ALMOST POISONED BY YOUR OWN HANDS
TRYING TO MIX MOTOR OIL WITH MY SODA CAN
YOUR MOM CAUGHT UP WITH YOU
AND SMACK YOU OUT OF THE BLUES
SEEMED THAT YOU AND ME WOULD NEVER GET ALONE
LOOKING TO BREAK THE UNION WITH YOUR OWN MOM
PROVOKING ARGUMENTS AND WHITE LIES
MAKING SURE TO MAKE ME ANGRY AND ABOUT TO LOSE IT ANYTIME..!
TEEN YEARS CAME BY AND ALL SEEMED ALRIGHT
UNTIL TROUBLE CAME FROM SKIPPING SCHOOL, OR STARTING A FIGHT
MOMMY THOUGHT YOU WOULD END UP IN JAIL
BUT BY ACT OF GOD, YOUR MIND STARTED TO CHANGE
SENIOR YEARS SAW A BIG CHANGE
YOU AND ME SHARES CALCULUS TRICKS...WITH NO SODA CAN!
THEN YOU HEADED INTO SERVING UNCLE SAM
AND LEFT FOR GOOD THE LAND OF THE FREE MAN
SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT THINK WHY?
WHY WE DIDN'T GET ALONG UNTIL REACHING NINE GRADE
WHEN YOUR MOM COULDN'T KEEP WITH THAT MATH FROM HELL
AND YOU REALIZED THAT STEP DAD, NEW MATH SO WELL
YOU LEFT FOR THIS WORLD... SO UNTRUE
AND YOU KNOW WE THINK ABOUT YOU
WAS GLAD TO HAVE GROW AROUND YOU
SEEING YOU GROW AND START ANEW...
PICTURES FROM IRAQ AND KABUL
SCENES OF DEATH ON THE AFTERNOON
ALMOST KILLED BY SNIPERS WITH A MISSION
NOW YOU WISH YOU WERE HOME IN ADMONITION
BUT WE KNOW YOU ARE OUR OWN BLOOD
SHARING THOUGHTS AND HELPING OTHER SONS
VAN DAMME BECAME YOUR TWIN
SINCE YOU LOVED TO HAVE MUSCLES LIKE HIM
YOU HAVE COME HOME AS WE EXPECTED
SAVVY, STERN AND WELL RESPECTED
AND LOST GIRLFRIENDS FOR BEING SO POLITE
ISN'T THAT INSANE SON OF MINE?
NOW A SENIOR AIRMAN AT TWENTY SIX
FULL OF LIFE AND READY FOR THE QUICK FIX
THE WAY YOU WERE TAUGHT WHEN IT WAS TIME TO FACE REAL ACTION
NO HESITATION, NO REMORSE AT TIMES, NOT ATTACHED TO ANY FACTION
YOU WON'T BE HOME BY CHRISTMAS INDEED
BUT YOU MADE IT WHEN LITTLE BROTHER WAS SICK
MOVED HEAVENS AND EARTH AND RED CROSS TO MAKE IT HOME
AND MADE SURE LITTLE BROTHER WAS BETTER OFF AND NOT ALONE
YOUR LIFE HAS BEEN ALMOST INCOGNITO ONE MORE TIME
SERVING YOUR COUNTRY AND BECOMING A REAL MAN
NOT EVEN READY TO DATE BECAUSE OF BROKEN HEARTS
NOW THESE WOMEN NEED TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS!!
ENOUGH OF WANTING A CAVEMAN INSIDE A LADIES MAN
ACCEPT A HERO AND BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
HAPPY HOLIDAYS OME MORE TIME SON
EVEN IF YOU ARE WALKING DOWN THE DESERT OF NOWHERE MAN
LOOKING INTO THE SKY THAT IS TRUE AND BRIGHT TO ANYONE
HOLDING OUR FLAG RIGHT AGAINST YOUR HEART AS HARD...AS YOU CAN... !

Lord you inspire every father who ever missed their children to be thankful and proud of them. In this case your son. I know what you felt, I have struggled with relationships with my 4 children, sadly only one do I see and speak to, the other 3 have been torn away from me by a mean, vindictive mother, who was and still is bent on destroying this Poet for divorcing her 13 yrs ago.
Yet my one shining star and hope is my 17 yr old son who has stuck with me through this hell. We both helped each other in our struggles, him with problems in High School, drugs, fighting and skipping. Me struggling trying to keep him safe and clean of drugs through rehab.
This dad is proud of him, he is finishing up his last year at HS, taking a carpentry trade, getting paid for his work and graduating in June 2012 proud and clean and a major change of attitude about drugs and booze.
So my friend I am proud of you and your relationship with your son, may he continue to stay safe and I pray for that any your continued loving relationship. Peace, blessings and a huge Merry Christmas to you and yours my poetic friend. This was a lovely tribute to Dad and son, made me feel great inside.
Touching.. I am sure you have many sleepless nights. I don't sleep much when my brother is in Iraq. Bless him and your whole family and thank you for the sacrifices you all make to make this world a better place.
Now that was beautiful. Too bad he won't be home for Christmas but I'll put your son in my prayers on Christmas Eve. Congrats on having such a wonderful and brave son!
Oh my lord, you made me cry on this one! Your son was so blessed to have you as his father..he knows that too..you did good lord..he is a man serving his country..what an awesome young man he is. I could feel your love for him and the pride you feel inside..You are right he came home for the most important things..God bless him..I will keep him in my prayers and thoughts. God bless your soldier..May he be safe and return home soon..This was such a beautiful hub..I am sorry for everytime I have made you cry..you got me today..you really got me....
Love,
Sunnie
A wonderful tribute to your stepson who now treats you like Dad instead of Step-Dad.
Lord,
I voted up and beautiful. You must be a wonderful father, I loved the poem, and the video. What a lucky son to you as a Dad. I wish you and your family the very best of a Holiday at Christmas Time.
Your Hub Friend,
Bobbi
thanks for your hub! it is an inspiration to all fathers out there and their sons on field of war..
Very nice and beautiful, Lord. When I see a father's love expressed openly I realize the special bond that can exist between father and child. Well done!
Thank you, Lord, for the prayers for my Mama. You are such a dear person with compassion.
I will keep your son in my prayers to keep him safe and bring him back home to you.
I wish you and yours very Happy Holidays. Blessings and hugs.
Beautiful. This means so very much to me and you have just touched my heart with love. Thank you.
What an amazing poem, you took us on a journey from childhood to manhood and hit the spot at every phrase.
As a father I was walking with you both all the way through.
I commend your tribute to the fine man you have helped to raise.
He deserves the chance to meet a good woman who will give him the respect he has truly earned.
Voted up up up all buttons Video was really cool too.
Your welcome Lord he is a great man your son and it is a fitting tribute. My Nephew is in the Royal Marines and is stationed in Libya at the moment. He done Basra last time out country.
oh, what a touching hub...why do i take every word nowadays personally?for no reason i want to cry...this hits my sensitivity lord...sigh...reminds me of Christmas song in which there are people who can't spend Christmas with their loved ones...
yes, a writer at that...once the emotion is there, it continues to flow up to the last drop...the period...
Oh this is truly beautiful.
Your pride so evident and so well deserved.
Take care and I wish you a wonderful day.
Eddy.
This is really great ..
blessings on your son and your family!
You have a BIG heart for protecting the person who almost got your son killed .. WOW. Accidents happen I suppose. Your son certainly has a dedicated guardian angel.. and thank God for that.
You're welcome, LORD!

A father's words for his very own son. Very touching! In a few lines you have charted the life of your son from when he was a toddler to where he is right now. You miss him, and rightly so. Here's to wishing you and your son, happy holidays, wherever he is right now.
Beautiful hub!
