Our Words of Appreciation--Thanks for reading us!

Updated on August 6, 2012

The day has arrived to spend time with our families and friends and the ones that already left for a better life. We do not forget our troops abroad and their separation from us, from a warm table that they would cherish so much.

BEING APPRECIATIVE

We were lucky to be raised in times when being a good boy was natural. As memory lane crosses the road of inspiration, gives us a warning of remembering good and bad moments. We come into this world naked and with no defenses at all. A slap in our butt and our premonitory cry, gives us a pretty much harsh cue to a life that is waiting for us.

Why to be appreciative is so important? It enriches our soul and our mental health. You might wonder why so many pictures are posted on Facebook. Just picture Simone Smith's wide smile, and that would help us understand the meaning of being appreciative. We were lucky to have a father that instilled in us the need of reading and... more reading. We cannot stop thanking him for the joy of having him around us until our teen years Mom was another story, she was the Mother Teresa of any day in our lives. She would have the right answer for every silly question we might come up with, at our tender age of five or six. "Great mom! Tomorrow I will start first grade; about time mom!"

GROWING UP WITH A HIDDEN HELPING HAND

We all, at a certain point in our lives, thought that we were not supposed to exist at all. Like a little tiny piece of quartz on the Sahara Desert. But like a hidden plan we find the interlaced moments that define our future. I hear my first baby crying behind a glass window, face down, completely wrapped up with these IV's, due to his coming to this world 2 months earlier. That was a shock for my own existence. Enter granddaddy and son seeing me cry on that fifth floor and as I kneel down and pray, I feel a warm hand, invincible but there, letting me know that 'the plan' has reached its peak.

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU

As the holidays approach, we feel the need to give. I'm talking about ourselves. We were given so much from so many, that It would be irrational to go against its reciprocal feeling. The thing is how you can give. Its not a matter of money. Since the beginning of civilization...there was no flat screen TV or a department store on the outskirts of Main St. There was a heart and a desire. Do you think, honestly, they were unhappy by not having the latest X-box game? Sticks, pebbles and nature set the docudrama scenario to let us have our own fun. The human race was created to do good. Ever felt that 'knot around your neck' and the sadness after not doing a good deed, that was, out there waiting for you?

OUR FAMILY, OUR LOVE, OUR LIFE

Sum up all the best feelings of the world and it can be found around our family. Enter Steve Jobs. He died saying goodbye to his family bedridden, but his cry was stopped by his own words: "Wow!...Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.”

Same way for Jean Jacques Rousseau. "I see the light in front of that window and face my last view of this world. Theresa, hold my hands." Those were his final seconds. He was sitting on a rocking chair and as urine intoxication finally took its toll, he was trying to cheat death by talking about the far away view outside the frame of his window.

REFLEXIONS TO CONSIDER OURSELVES

We all have our own plan, supposedly. Some are out of college. Some, are stay at home mom/dad. But above all these personal schedules, we need to make room for our own spirituality. We were not born from a brick or the quintessential chemical romance between proteins and enzymes

Those finals words must've been the best feeling he ever experienced in his last second of life. He was true to his words until the end. And we know that he would've given 90% of his fortune, just to live another 48 hours. You see this picture? You have a family around or a phone call away, but your own personal activities set priorities and as you might guess, we leave the loved ones for a later time that would never come back.

A reflexion for all of us including ourselves, that one day ( all of us) back then, were kissed goodbye to step up that school bus of Life, for the first time...
