Selena Quintanilla, Up Close and familiar-- How Parents cope with an Early Departure

Updated on September 22, 2012

Selena Quintanilla, your legend still lives and definitely you are still around us. We cannot forget that day, March 31, 1995... when the news broke the reality of your departure from us. Is hard to think how a parent could be able to deal with the lose of a beautiful daughter at the tender age of 23. On April the 16th you would've turned 41. So many things would've been so different. I could've swore I dreamed of you singing next to Rihanna and U2. But you were chosen to leave us early. We think that your charisma and sexy voice made a difference when you delivered your songs. We cannot stop thinking of your last concert at the astrodome in Houston. Oh Dios!

Days-In Hotel

Corpus Christi Texas, room 158

Selena was ofuscated with her fan's club manager Yolanda Zaldivar. Tension built up when the Texan singer confronted her future murderer. Embezzlement and fraud has been haunting the family and Selena's dad was not going to take it anymore. Sometimes we wonder if a couple of ten thousand dollars were worth the fight. In her mind Yolanda is decided to end her boss life.

"This is the end of the month Yolanda. I have been protecting you from my parents outrage, and is time for you to come clean. Once and for all I want to have in my hands the accountant's report and a full explanation of these checks forgery allegations. Delaying this situation is getting you nowhere. How could you...! The IRS is going to find out about your little games Yolanda!"

Sounded like a normal day at the office, but Yolanda sitting herself on the hotel bed, opened up her purse, slowly as it could be... and got a small gun. Selena that was close to the outside door, realises that this woman is about to take justice in her own hands. Selena instinctively tries to flee... but as soon as she opens the door, she is shot on her right shoulder. "Bitch..!" is all Yolanda can say in rage. Selena is mortally wounded, and flees through the hallway that takes her to the receptionist. In our quick recount, we see our singer still wondering, why? Her eyes and her strength are almost coming to a close. Of course we see in her mind her last thoughts for her family and God. Yolanda cannot believe what she did, and runs toward her own pick up car. For the next nine hours, the assassin held a gun to her head, threatening the police with taking her own life...

You were an angel among angels and we see you taking that woman to get checked, supposedly for rape. You were so good of a person, that this demon was taking her time and took advantage of the best moment to take and rob your life. Could we have prevented it? Yeah sure, but that would've change history in your favor and we would've disrupted mortality. Changing divine, and not understandable at all, intervention, could've have resulted in devastating consequences. Only the maker can stop the Sun from shining upon us, and we have to abide by the rules of life... and death.

What Happened then?

Court papers, witnesses and even gossipers thought of a personal plotting. Was just Saldivar the solely killer? Was this a black shadow behind the record industry? Our only assumption is that Selena broke into mainstream creating antagonisms. Evilness can come together and form an alliance against good doers. Just come to our minds, president Kennedy, Luther King, Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.

SELENA LIVE!-- Her last concert

Selena's last big concert took place on february 26, 1995 at the Houston Astrodome. Over 66,000 fans gathered to see their artist perform. That was a super bowl concert for spanish and mexican american fans. Most of her songs on that night were put together in an album called Amor prohibido (forbidden love). If ever seen the movie about her life, Selena's family never acepted her husband, and her brother, being a composer, captured similar stories about forbidden love; the rest became history. Besides her unique charm and attributes, Selena knew where she came from. Her concerts were a bigger edition of a family party. Who could've thought that her days were counted and about to run out. What we know is that Selena forgave her killer and that is without doubt resting in peace. On a personal side, we will always remember her smile and her style. Gracias Selena!
