Still Loving Our Dad, After All...!

Updated on June 19, 2016

"Inspirations and ideas coming and going... Grabbing those thoughts before they go back into Heaven"

Knowing that Father's day is a very especial day for so many of us, we thought of writing down a few words -- that we never know how was going to end. Feeling those muses guiding our fingers, and putting a mind to brainstorm a poem.

A roller coaster of life reaching its peak, and getting ready reveal the real Joseph. Feelings, senses and emotions... that must've been long gone, or unconsciously hidden. Here is our little poem dedicated to our own father.

Words keep coming, trying to make sense...

Don't know how or where to start...

Let's God guide our hands...

All we know is that we were created in time

Words keep pushing each other at once

'feelings' that want to take over our intrinsic mind

Our voices are a clear and... vivid reminder of them

Not a choice of ours having their manners

even the way we write and hold this pen

frowning upon a word not well worded

feeling criticism from within

aborted phrases that couldn't go with him

sensing his 'you are doing better this time..!'

Who chose our parents after all?

were we predestined to be the ones to initiate a change?

Dad was young and by chance met that doll

Hidden rendezvous that marked our fates

Telling Paris, finally we got our expected call

Now that we are parents we look back and all start making sense

Now that we are providers loving unconditionally with no pretense

cause we saw a hero inside of our father and his guiding hand

We are the way we are, and we fulfilled that hidden plan

Memories of touch downs and home runs next to him

have kept us at bay avoiding whimsical scenes

challenging thoughts that wanted to stay afloat

emerging and embracing us like a life saver with no doubt

The eternal fight inside of us

why does it cause so much fuzz

'how come, why did he, and why he didn't follow to the end'

comes to our mind, ravaging our common sense

What is a father after all?

The one who gave you life and left things undone?

Or the one who took over your tender years

and believed in you and the future man

Our dad was unique and fun

The way we write is the way he wanted us to be

creating and penning down as we speak

'There you go son, nice lines, well done'

see dad? You started my own mind..!

Words fighting their way with harsh thoughts

scars from the past, that came back to hunt us

trying to convince us of dad's treason

When finally he decided to leave home with a sad aftermath

another woman crossed his life and his path

Still loving our dad, even if he was at fault

gave us life, a heart, a soul... a mind of our own

Still surprised by his choices in life

Still in awe of his bright mind... that change forever our lives

When we became fathers ourselves

started to understand the man behind his quill

we came closer and he was able to repent

beyond words and those tired eyes loved us to his very end.

Note from the Author:

Dad died on November 16, 2006; the same day we were supposed to take a plane... and go see him once again. When we made it there... it was too late. His new wife told us that emotions, memories, and perhaps the thought of seeing us again ( for the last time) made a big 'impact' on his heart. Thinking now, life is not forever, and we know it so well! Rest In Peace dad!
