When Sandy Came our Way -- How We Felt it, Hour after Hour

Is 12:41 p.m. on Sunday October 28, 2012 Eastern Standard time. We initiate this hub-Journal with some worried feelings and who wouldn't? Some people through emails told us to evacuate and we felt some peace at once. We thought it was irrational on our side just to drive away.

But let's see what's the real feeling on the streets: wen't to do some quick grocery shopping and saw a courteous crowd; cars were being driven carefully and all was calm . The local mall next to our house was pretty much hectic. The sky was heavier than ever before. Picture a 6:30 p.m. day, dark and gloomy. Was this a premonitory view of what was coming?

Is the name given to a tropical storm that started shaping up over a week ago. We don't want to delve into why they chose women names most of the time, but Sandy is already making history.

As of 11a.m. Sunday October 28th

Sandy was at Category 1 strength, packing 75 mph winds, about 250 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and moving northeast at 14 mph as of 11 a.m. ET Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was about 575 miles south of New York City.

Suddenly we get a call from work. Machinery and printing paper has to be secured. So we are heading to another unexpected 8 hours shift.

The winds are being felt out there. We feel on and off these sudden strokes against our house windows. So far we are fine. Our location? 20 miles north from Trenton New Jersey...

As of 5:56 p.m.

Cloudier and breezy. Is dark already, and feels like the clouds are moving south-east. Drivers are already hurrying home. A cold blooded scenario already taking place on top of us, single mortals.

So far everything is quiet. Do you guys think this is the calm before the storm? We will see. Sandy is traveling at 14-18 miles per hour and will be among us monday afternoon. The fact of the matter is that Sandy will literally collide with a wintry storm moving in from the west and cold air streaming down from the Arctic, and we cannot predict the outcome.

Forecasters said the "Frankestorm" combination could bring close to a foot of rain, a potentially lethal storm surge and punishing winds extending hundreds of miles outward from the storm's center. It could also dump up to 2 feet of snow in Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia.

Here is a late footage around the neighborhood. Nothing different just a quiet night. What will happened in the next 24 hours? "Joseph please! Time to go to bed!"

We woke up with no reason to fear, not yet. Temperatures went down to the low fifties. But this time there is something different: a slightly rainy morning, with some bearable winds.

We read on Facebook to our friends Maria Jordan and Cloud Explorer; there is no way to drive away anymore. Some high winds are already showing up. We hope we stay safe and use our common sense. Here is a little video at 8:04 a.m.

Sandy is coming with a vengeance! Wind is getting a little louder. We heard that the Bridges and tunnels toward and from New York are closing right now. This is it! The ordeal starts now. People is worried of course. A frontal high wind of 65 miles/hr. can cause havoc and devastation. Whoever you are start praying for the best outcome. some tree limbs are coming down. Temperature went down to 49 degrees.

Unexpectedly the electricity went off. Felt as though in the corner near our house a transformer blew off. The sky is already heavy enough to hold so much energy in it. The winds get stronger by the minute. We keep our coolness looking through the window how the menacing Sandy start showing her signs.

4:45 p.m. No Electricity, No daylight and barely Left to her mercy

Making things short, we knew we were going to experience the worst event in history... and there she came; trees started falling far in the distance. The sound on an injured dragon was felt far away to the south. Came to us a vivid vision of the "Ten commandments" when the red clouds felt down and spread its sentence... and came down with no mercy to pick up the chosen ones, even the Pharaoh's son.

This was the worst moment of all. Sandy was in full rage.

"Well Joseph, are you ready or what? I don't have time to wait for you. I don't have time for beating around the bush. You know, I don't wait for anyone. Gonna shake your house, so you can understand what I mean! Prayers?? Who cares buddy. Just tell me one bad word and you are coming with me... Joseph!! Let me check if you are on my list."

I swear, it was the darkest night and those 65-75 miles/hr. high winds came upon us right on time. Sandy was running the streets like a mad woman, literally. At seconds she would calm, and then she would come back stronger and with no second thoughts. Just felt as though a big monster wanted to make us blow all up within the second. That great adventure ride was nothing. The walls were shaking like a Titanic in despair, and there was nobody there to feel compassion for us... or maybe yes?

We gave up and left it to Sandy. We actually went to bed and sent her to "hell." I was like, "do whatever you want bitch! Just tired of your threats!!" Her answer was to hit us back from all corners. Shingles got ripped off, and part of the corner of our roof blew away. Vinyl-siding started hitting our second floor like an old 25 gallon metal bucket. Then we felt like a caterpillar hitting the back of our porch. This craze of nature meant business, and she was not kidding!

1:30 a.m. October 30, 2012... the end came slowly.

Woke up a little stiffen and saw through the window a light rain and some forgettable wind furriers. Desolation, fire engines and ambulances made me wake up completely. She was gone! We thought about our families up north and about our hubber friends. Our lives were spared for sure; and believe it or not, praying was essential in times like this. We believed we were surrounded by angels, because at times the sky lighted up and peace and courage was felt. You gotta be there to understand...
