When You Share Your Heart and Your Life -- A Touching Interview With Our Beloved Deborah Brooks
We caught up with Debbie Brooks! Today! She was writing and polishing her Interview series, and her prolific poetry. Actually we are already behind in commenting. She must be like us: One hub written, one down from her resourceful brain.
We wanted to ask her questions that we all could have asked. So we decided to go straight to business. One thing is sure: Debbie can make you smile, dance, get closer to God or...yep! also cry. So this is a warning. You will need some Kleenex after reading about our beloved Debbie.
"Hi Debbie! How are you?"
"Oh, Hi Joseph. So good to see you my friend.! Let me clean my glasses and put my next hub on hold."
Her first words and her beliefs
Do you think, we are here with a purpose Debbie? I mean... I feel weird at times...
I believe so Joseph! Our Savior, our Lord is always there to help us. It is so good to know hubbers like you and Faith Reaper and Michelle Travis obey the Lord and write about HIM.
That was a quick start Debbie! Let's go straight into action. For instance, huh..! (She gave us a glass of Sangria). How was life in the sixties for you? Maybe 70's?
Oh My Life in the 60's.. wow!! I loved the 60's and 70's. I had great time. I loved the mini shirts. I had good legs then..(widest smile)
Please Debbie don't start us!! Can you imagine Janine Huldie and Billy and Josh smiling??
I know! I wore short shorts and when the bikini came out I never got to wear it though my dad would have killed me. But I did have a two piece Yellow bathing suit I had on when I met my first husband. He fell in love with me..LOL.. that still makes me smile...sorry! That Music was the balm. I was in Love with the Beatles. Can you see me screaming for them?
I believe you Debbie! Passing out like a gruppie and all...!
Hahaha! I was into dancing. I was very good and I miss it. I had the world by the tail. Now seriously: if I only knew then what I know now..LOL
First Marriage and... "as the world turns around"
How did you meet your husband or your kids' dad. Feel free to tell us... We just want to hear from the real source.
As I said, I met my husband when I was sunbathing in my yellow two piece bathing suit. He was cutting his front yard with his dad's riding lawn mower. He was home from the Navy; on a visit he had just gotten out of bootcamp and was going to be stationed on a ship out of Pugent Sound Naval Ship yard out of Bremerton Washington State.
Wow Debbie. You must've have a good rear view mirror. You know what we mean?
You are funny!! Our favorite song was "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay," that's where he would sit writing me love letters. We got married and divorced three years later and then I met the boys father. I had my two wonderful sons by then. He was not a very nice man to say the least. So we divorced and you are right: my first husband and I met again years later and we married each other again.Wow what a story!!!
Bad girl! You were something else (kidding)
Music Maestro. 'At last' By Etta James
We are bold to ask this question, so everyone will ponder:
Have HP or your hubber friends saved your life?
Oh yes, everyone is so kind..! I dont know if people lie to me and tell me my hubs are great, but if they are keep the lies coming... and just let me write..lol...I do want to thank everyone for being so kind and good to me when you do not have to be. I was in a bad way when I started writing here at the hub.You and so many have taught me so much. Yes you have saved my life. God knew what he was doing when he put me here... thank you!! Thank you all!
We know you love your mom so much, like any of us. What would you say to your mom today and tomorrow?
Mom (tears, pause) I want to thank you for being the best mom anyone could ever have. You were a real living angel. You put up with my foolishness and loved me no matter what. I want you to be proud of me.. and... with tears I miss you so much. But I know you are not in pain any more and... I know you are with Jesus!! And thank you for all you have done for me.I pray that I will make you proud now and in the future. I know you would have liked my book of Poetry I wrote and my novel that will be released soon. I wish you could read it. But I will read it to you at your grave, when I get to go home for the first time in September since you have died last year in July (2010).
Just for a little break: ABBA, "Dancing Queen"
Debbie, you really made me cry with that speech...! Going into a diffent direction Debbie!
Fathers. Aren't we blessed of having them? Is your dad doing better? We know he misses your mom...
My dad has been so lonely and he has met a woman. My Father is getting married next month.
Yikes! Breaking news!
I am going home for his wedding. I feel funny about it, but I do want him to be happy. Enough said about that..(forced smiles this time...huh?)
Forget it Anderson Cooper. No more talking about it...because she said so!
Sometimes we come up with different questions that we don't even know about. But, what would you put your mind into if you weren't a writer?
Wow! I know what you mean! I am good at sales. I was a Mary Kay Director. I won a free car.
You are kidding me..?
Not at all Joseph. I would probably pursue that again. If I was younger I would dance again. Hahaha!I am good at managment but no matter what, I love to write. I was even thinking that if husband and did not make it...
I would go to Haiti to work and help in what I could do.I have been to haiti in the past. So I know what it's like. Or probably live in Mexico with my son and live with the Cartel..lol..who knows.. lol . I never know from day to day what my life wil be like (smile after smile). I just love life and I am so glad to be alive.!!
At her request: Love to Love.. By Donna Summer
How close were you to death? We heard that you almost died in another country... can you tell us?
Oh No we were living In Cuba!! Hehehe Oh my.. I was on a bike and going down a hill. I don't remember exactly what happened. But I was told I hit a curb and I went over the bike handlebars and landed on my head. I was in a coma for 48 hours. I had a brain concussion and ended up having to be evacuated to Bethesda MD Naval Hospital in Maryland. I was pretty broken up. I still have problems to this day from all the bones I broke.. God saved me. I could've died.
Two Sons and Two Daughters in Law
Your sons, the love of your life. Can you tell us about your daughters in law?
Oh My WORD!! MY BEAUTIFUL TALENTED DAUGHTER IN LAWS. They are so precious and they love me so much. I am so blessed!! They both were born in Mexico: Laura in Mexico City (D.F.) and Gladys in Matamoros. Gladys and my son Aaron have given me three beautiful grandchildren.
I am so proud ot be a grandmother. IT IS THE MOST AWESOME JOB... and I thought being a parent was the most awesome job!
Closing the interview -- She can talk!
Before and after becoming a Grandma, what has changed in your life?
I have taken my writing serious. Life always got in the way before.
Why are you getting closer to our creator? Is a need? A way to thank him for the miracles in your life?
The Lord God has been so good to me. He puts up with my foolishness and still loves me. He is so patient with me. I do not deserve this life I have, but he has blessed me anyway.
What would you say to a great great grand daughter through the magic of the net? Always stay true to your convictions and Love with all your heart and never give up my great great granddaughter. Because God made you and you Are the best!!! God doesn't make seconds. he makes the best!! And thats what you are....THE BEST!!
Thanks Debbie!! Was it the wine? I thought she was hollering, but there she is! We appreciate your time and your sincerity beloved Debbie! There you have it Frank Atanacio!
Thank you so much Joseph. You are so awesome my friend. I am so blessed to know you.
